After reading “Boys and Boredom” by George Will I have come the epiphany that boys need more change in their classroom environment. What I mean by this, is that a teacher just talking all day is not going to keep the average boy intent on what they are saying. Giving that the average boys attention span is 30seconds. This matters to me, because I am an average boy in a classroom environment that is constantly changing with more distractions. All in all, the classrooms need to focus on how we learn and then focus on the teaching.

I saw a video called "Changing Education Pradigms" by RSA Animate, which affects the students and I in education, and the future of our world. The video went into detail about how education is still grounded on the same things as it was hundreds of years ago. This video also talked about how education is headed in the wrong direction; how we think more standardized tests is a better way to learn. This article affects me because it is talking about changing the way that I learn. The article affects me because it is talking about changing my thinking from just thinking one view or answer being correct, to having multiple view points and answers being correct. This would make me a more creative thinker as a result. Since this article affects me, a boy in education, it also affects other children in education as well. RSA Animate is talking about having fewer tests, and having a less strict schooling system for children to keep up with. This affects children in education because it would allow them to work at their own intelligence level, and work at their own pace. Children would have more personalized learning, and hopefully receive a better education as a result. Though the article talked mainly about education and children, it still greatly affected the rest of the world. This article affects the world because it talked about how sidetracked we are with simulation type devices. Instead of focusing more on learning and working harder at our professions, we are playing video games watching television, and playing with our iPhones. Overall, this article affects students and my type of learning in education and the ability to see what’s most important in the world and what matters to them.

In the article Boys and Boredom by George Will, Will states that because of modern technologies keeping kids stimulated at all times, kids are becoming bored with nothing to do for thirty seconds. The concepts and ideas in the article matter to me, education, and the world. The ideas discussed in the article matter to me because I constantly need some form of entertainment in order to not get bored; accordingly I need to bring my iPod or some other form of entertainment with me at all times to avoid boredom. This article matters to education; this is because teachers, and schools in general, will have to have activities, problems and other work to keep students occupied at all times. This matters to the world because people need twenty-four hour entertainment so portable entertainment is in high demand; therefore industries such as MP3 players and laptops are succeeding. The concepts and ideas in the article Lost in Electronica by George Will matter to me, education, and the world.

The video “What If” matters to me because I am a student in a time where new technology is coming out really fast , to education because many people who were involved in education stated current crisis’s about progressing in education technologically, and to the world because this video shows how technology has grown. The video “What If” was about how people predicted many problems that were going to come if students relied on a specific item. Since I am a student in a place where technology is expanding, I can either choose to use it as good or bad, which Mr. Fisch discussed. In the video, there were many examples of doubters who were a part of education. For example, one made a strong point about students’ dependence on calculators. He or she said that since we are so dependent on calculators, what happens when we will need them and don’t have access to one. That argument has pretty much degraded because calculators are now on phones, iPods, computers, ect. This means that calculators are very easy to access. When I was watching this video, I was amazed at how much little time generated new technology and also new arguments in the world. I wonder what I will see what the argument will be in 50 years or so.

In "Schools would be great if it weren't for the kids" by Alfie Kohn, he points out how teachers need to be focusing harder on the kids learning than they are the kid’s grades. The article makes a great point on how these things really do matter. This matters to me because I am a hardworking student. When I grow up in this world, instead of good grades, I need to actually know the information that the teachers are giving to me. This matters to education, because for the next decade, we need the most educated thinkers the world has ever seen. Over the next 20-40 years, we are going to be responsible for running the world. If we are not ready for this responsibility because we are focused on grades rather than learning, the world will fail. Lastly, this matters to society because this world and our people deserve to have the best possible chance of success and it’s not going to happen if there are only a few that actually get all of the material they learn instead of just good grades. All in all, we really need to focus on how and what we teach to the future leaders for true success.

After reading from "Global Voices in English" by Rezwan about alot of things happening with his people i have come to an epifiny as you may say. I realized that this man is trying to get a point across and i wondered why he used blogging. Well, blogging makes it so everyone can see these things. I believe that this leads to how we also need to be using technology in school so we can get a hold of this information. This would help this mans dream come true as well as many others.

After reading from "Googley Advise" by bloggers about what we should be learning about in schools I think that we should be able to choose what classes we take and what we learn. This matters to me, because I am currently in school and learning about things that I honestly don't care at all about and I think most of them will never be used in my life time. This matters to the world, because kids all over the place have the basic same concern that I do. This concern is that we should be learning about things that are world related in the majority of jobs to better help us succeed in what we do. Its a idea that has bean rising all over the world and I believe that we need to address this fast because the world won't wait for us.

After whaching the video from "Weblogg-ed" video interviewing Will Richardson and talking about how he is trying to get attention to how technoligy is affecting the classrooms through blogging about it. This matters to me because i currently use technology in a High School classroom and it is a great recource to me which goes against his concerns. It matters to the world, because there are classrooms using the same technology as me internet wise for a main purpose from my point of view. My point of view is that we need to know what is going on around us and in the world so we can also give ideas to what we should be learning. This also goes along the lines of us needing to know what is going on around us. The simple fact about technology is that that we need to utilize this great recource as long as we are focused on using it in the right ways.

In "2020 vision" by Arapahoe High School employees, this video reminds not only students but teachers and the world all togethor about on image. This image is about how things are changing and debates on if teachers are teaching the right or wrong things to students and how much things are going to change by the year 2020. This matters to me because by 2020 ill be in this new world done with my high school education and trying to get a career started. This matters to the world, because i dont think we are teaching the right things for the new world ahead of us. Lastly, this matters to my education, because once again, if teachers aren't teaching me the right things for me to be ready for this world, then we might as well not be educated.

After reading from Napa Village Blog by "natavillage" and this was a major shock. We as americans not only have our right to be free, but we have one of the richest countries, with anything we want to do in reach but most of us dont ultimately reach our goals. These Napa Village people can't be as free, can't have what they want, and they live in poverty. Instead of America focusing on ourselfs i believe that we need to focus more on the people around us and getting them to where we are now. This would greater help us in reputation, but the real reason why we should help these people is for moral's and doing what is right.

In "Regor Redefined" by Tony Wagner, it talks about the recent job structure as well as economy but also the future jobs and how we need to be looking at things to be ready for them when it arrives. This matters to me because the future, is my future. It matters to education because it points out to teacher that maybe they are teaching us the wrong things and need to rethink what is happening to the world and what is going on around us.Lastly, it matters to society because we are the new age of people growing up and we are the ones who are going to change this new world, looking through different eyes and viewpoints on life.

In Mr.Fisch's blogs in general i realized, why is this man doing so many posts? At first, i thought he might be bored, entertained by posting, or just enjoys it. But then i saw it from another viewpoint, of him wanting to teach people about things going on and how they are affecting us. He's accomplishing this through whats called blogging. I think its brilliant to try and teach the world through the globally recognized thing called blogging.

In "Web 2.0 The machine is us/ing us" by Professor Michael Wesch, this video simply examines the way our internet is using us and how we could use it. Its looking at computers from another point of view. This video matters to me because i want to be able to know more about how computers are changing us and how the future is going to look with them. It matters to society because people need to realize things like this instead of just going along with everything people do blindfolded. Lastly, it matters to education because computers are the new age of learning wethor we like it or not, it is a new age of technology to soon be more capable than the human mind. Can this overtake us if it gets smarter?

In Will Richardson’s Footprints in the Digital Age he talks about how the things that we write about on the internet could affect how people think about us or what the things we do will show how our future will end up. In the article it states that students need to post items on their blogs that will help them in the future and make them seem smart and influential. This will affect our education because we are posting things on the internet right now and we need to make sure that the things we post are correct and will help us make a good impression of ourselves to the people reading our blogs or postings. For example the little girl has a very good digital footprint because she was doing good things on the web with charity and was very influential. But other people make themselves seem like misanthropes because they post negative or mean things. The world needs to post smart things on the internet to make sure that people view them as smart good people. Having a good digital footprint will help everyone get far in life.

In the blog Fischbowl, Karl Fisch talks about the Denver Post and their comments in the article Dear Denver Post-You’re the Disappointment, an article about the Denver Post talking about students being sad about going to go to school. It matters because if the post is writing about negative points on school and saying that we are disappointed to go it won’t give us a good reputation about learning. If the world thinks that we are all a bunch of teenagers who aren’t happy about learning then we won’t have much support from our parents and adults. For education if people are telling us students that we should be disappointed for school then we will be lazy and not try hard. Our work ethic will go down the drain and we will all just quit in school. I don’t think the Denver Post meant to make the article negative towards education but they are our role models and if we did what they said then all of us would be dropping out of school. So our parents need to teach us the right skills and work ethics toward things to help us do better in life.

I read from the Denver Post subscription, about a jeep falling 1,000 feet and a woman was killed. This matters to me, because it makes me realize once more on a subject that has been creeping up on me for seamingly ages. It matters to me, because all that is blogged and on the news these days is nothing but nasty foul things happening in the world and how thta needs to change. How it matters to education is that the news is only saying terrible things that have happened instead of happy things and how the world is progressing. I think articles like the one that i read are a huge contributer to depression for soem people.

The big question is, "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" and it depends on how you look at this question. One way is to agree without any thought about the slightest part. My way is debating and pondering on my biggest questions on how it matters to me and how it matters to education. It matters to me, because i dont think that it is making us stupid if you use it to pull information rather than look for fun games. Also it matters to education, because without Google we would'nt have much to base our information off of or agree with thoughts from other people in a huge database of everything u can think of. This information is giving us a chance to point out our views of google and have an open argument on our point, which is in fact helping us learn.

After I watched this video i think what mattered is how students today arent learning as much because of technology. It could be a benefit but we are using it in the wrong ways. Also, because its making us just want quik answers without having to search for them. What this means to me is that I am being held back by technology playing videogames and computer games instead of focusing on whats important to me. What it means for education is that it might be changed to more benefit people instead of holding them back eventually, taking away the things we dont need that wont be helpfull. Sometime in the future, computers may be less helpful then we thought possible and hold us back from what we stride to become.

What Matters To JoshL2014

Family matters to me...My family is unbelievable with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. I have bean very lucky to have two wonderful households, (yes they are divorced) with loving family.
My moms house who i love dearly, is married once again giving her the last name of Willis. Her husband,(my step-dad) who i look up to as a father, met my mom in the psychiatric hospital working togethor quit some time ago. My favorite thing about Al, is that he is the calmest guy u will ever meat. You would literally have to try to get him mad. I love my moms house, its relaxing and comfortable to be around. being the youngest of my brothers and sister i am pretty tough, taking the occasional beating from time to time. But they are very caring of me.
My brothers, who always keep me occupied have given me memories that i will never forget. From flipping my entire brothers room upside down, to watching my brothers arm snap in half at his football game, saying "I think its broken" while it was hanging down into a V. Being the youngest of my brothers and sisters i am pretty tough, taking the occasional beating from time to time. But they are very protective of me so i love them.
My other side of the family, who lives in Seattle, is interesting as well. From my uncle, who had 120 chickens that were getting eaten by foxes and what not, so he decided to mount a Gatling gun on his porch to solve the problem on his land. Along with my uncles kids, who now work together making playgrounds for kids in Seattle. Of course with their tough personalities, the first time we went down their we went skeet shooting and Ben my brother, shot a fish in the pond and my uncles son of course made the comment, "i wonder how deep he his underground".

Baseball Team soon, i somewhat enjoy hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing.
I love baseball, because its exhilarating, entertaining, and i love teamwork. I enjoy the fact that im not working alone, i have a team all working together to accomplish my goals. This goes along with accomplishing goals in my life, like school work and friend issues. Its exhilarating. because your team is counting on u at the second you have to ball in your hands. You need to know what move to make and when. Its also entertaining watching your team lose and get better, or succeed which results in a wonderful barbecue or party. Teamwork is what i love most about baseball because it is what a lot of people live by and go with all through life with work, teams, and buiseness.
I also love the outdoors because it gets the family out to be social with each other and just in general have a great time. It gets us to fireworks on 4rth of July and many other things in all aspects of life. The smell of plants, animals, and life all bundles up in the fresh air outside make the outdoors one of a kind. All in all, Many things matter to me, and this list could go on for ages and decades of miscellaneous things that people probably do not want to read about, but i love everything in my life.
