Scientific Notation

(4.5 x 1011)(3.1 x 104)

When you see a problem like this, your wondering how to do it.
The first step, is to multiply the first numbers in the equation (4.5x3.1= 13.95).
The next step, is to NOT change that 10... just remember that.
THEN and only then... you add 11+4 which equals 15.
So far we have 13.95 x10-15-
then you move  1.395 the decimal place to the left one spot.
Then finally you change -15- to -16- since you moved the decimal place to the left, making it a smaller #
So to even it out, you end up with 1.395x10 -16-

Direct and Inverse Variation blog josh levy

Variation problems involve fairly simple relationships or formulas, involving one variable being equal to one term. That term might be linear (something with just an "x"), quadratic (something in "x2"), more than one variable (such as "r2h"), a square root (something like "sqrt(4 - r^2)"), or something else. But it is always just the one term in the formula, multiplied by some number, usually denoted by "k" if you don't yet know the number's value; this number k is called "the constant of variation".

Reflective Blog Post #1

After the first week in Algebra, I feel like Mr.fisch teaches in a stile that I like and understand. I'm excited about this year in general because it feels like i'm on track doing my work. The only challenge in this class for me, is to just focus in class. I'm ontop of my homework now but my ADHD hold be back in some ways so its harder to get all the information. One goal for me in Algebra this year, is to be prepared. For tests, homework, and for things i dont like. School does keep me entertained, but the work at home is just annoying, and with so many classes on my schedule its ALOT of work. Another goal of mine for AHS in general, is to focus more on school than on friends because i get carried away quick to say the least. Lastly, a goal outside of AHS is to become a stronger person. Just in general I believe you can't be perfect in your own way. For this reason, I try to get as close as possible because i feel like i have many flaws. I can achive all of these goals, it's just a matter of staying ontop of it.

PLN 3

In your "The Problem with the Social Media" I completely agree blogging can be used for good things, but it can also be used for bad things. Blogs don’t voice much of an opinion, making a discussion has to have physical noticing of what the other person is thinking to humble the conversation. Next, blogging is a great way to get multiple views on an issue. We can talk to people around the world and tell them what we think. Last, "Then suddenly I realized why nobody was reading my profoundly erudite blog comments. I wasn’t reading any of the other thousand commenter’s brilliant comments. Nobody else was either." If nobody reads your posts or comments on them, it makes writing a complete waste of time because you had a goal for your post that probably wasn’t even close to how it actually is. what’s the point of a blog if nobodies reading it?

PLN 2

Dear Mr. Fisch,
I liked your article The Learning Studio because I feel that this is the way that students should be learning today. The methods used by the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia in “The Learning Studio” such as working with groups, not being lectured then tested and so on should be what a class room is like now and in the future. I think that these ways of learning and teaching would really benefit the students today because if students just think with their peers today and try to solve problems, they will learn this skill now. I also agree that the lecture and testing style of teaching is not effective because I am a student and I know that when i'm being lectured, I zone out. Then after not fully understanding the lecture, students cram for tests, which don’t help a student understand the material, and then they just forget about it after the test is over. This learning studio should be the classroom of students today because it would be more effective in getting kids educated and prepared for the real world.

Dear Mr. Karl Fisch –

In your article “Dear Denver Post: No More Horoscopes”, I agree with your feelings towards the horoscopes in the Denver Post news paper, and I agree with your idea for replacing this portion of the paper with science articles. Your statistic about one fourth of Americans actually believing in Astrology made it even more evident to me that horoscopes need to be replaced by articles that are logical and supported by science. If people know more about America’s and the world’s problems, then people would be more knowledgeable about the issues and more inclined to help fix the problems. In the future, I hope to see this change made to not only improve the newspaper but also enhance the knowledge of its readers.

PLN(first for second semester)

After reading/watching This Post by Mr. Fisch, I have come to an epiphany. I have realized that not being able to do something is a myth until proven impossible. This relates to every aspect of my life. I say that, "It's impossible" to hit a baseball further, to run faster, and to climb 30 skyscrapers without ropes. All of these things have bean proven that it is, in fact, possible. People have used the word "impossible" way too freely, and this one thought, this one subtle word "impossible" could change the way our world evaluates "possible".
